Hello everyone,
Our last dinner of the year this Saturday is currently filled and has a waiting list, but we have a consolation event of sorts! On Sunday December 12th, we'll be hosting our first concert in the garden pavilion. Sarah befriended these fine musicians over the summer at oldtime music festivals in the southeast. If it's anything like the goodtime of music after a garden dinner, this will be a heaping helping of that. The pavilion will be heated by the two woodstoves, so things will be cozy.
ABOUT THE BAND: The Tennessee Hillbuddies like their stringband music in the traditional style: rhythmic, rowdy, and all but refined. They are about good music and good times, and their performances are known for causing hats to fly. The band is comprised of Henry Barnes, Conner Vlietstra, and Ali Kafka. Henry Barnes, originally from Washington Courthouse, OH, is now residing in Carter County, TN with Ali. Henry is known for taking the blue ribbon at many fiddle competitions, and is recognized as a Master of Traditional Arts by the state of Ohio for his work to introduce teenagers to the oldest living generation of Ohio musicians. His versatile fiddling is not to be missed! Conner is an Old-Time Country and Bluegrass Musician from Chattanooga, Tennessee. That area, having a rich tradition of stringband music, had a profound influence on him. A multi-instrumentalist, he plays the banjo in this configuration and is known to serenade at times. He also tours the country with Rebel Records recording artists the Price Sisters. Ali, a Floridian by birth who spent her formative musical years as a busker in New Orleans, is known for her unique thumb-style guitar playing that showcases her love of early recording-era country blues and southern string band music. Both Conner and Ali attend East Tennessee State University, Ali for a Master's in Social Work and Conner in the Bluegrass, Country, and Roots Music program. If you're looking for music in the good old time way, without reservation, you will want to hear the Hillbuddies directly.
While Sayuri will not be cooking a delicious seasonal meal, we will be hosting a potluck before the performance for those who'd like to have something to eat before the music. Bring your favorite holiday dish to share! The concert will begin at 7:30, potluck at 6. It gets dark much earlier now, so feel free to arrive as early as 4 to find a spot to park. For those traveling from further away, camping will be available in the garden or pavilion.
Bring $15 for the band. Masks are appreciated. And if you'd like to buy some winter veggies, we will have some produce for sale too. Please RSVP by replying to this email.
Concert: 7:30-9pm
